About Me

Welcome to Overland Designs

My name is Jason Esposito, and this business is my passion. It all started in 2008, just a few months after I purchased my first new Subaru WRX STi. I loved the car's performance and handling, but coming from a 2004 Audi S4, I was very disappointed in the interior. It rattled, creaked, and the sea of plastic felt cheap—it just didn't align with the other positive characteristics of the car.

I immediately started searching for fabrics used in high-end performance cars and found they all used Alcantara for its unmatched comfort, durability, and style. From that day on, I was determined to redesign my STi's interior into something great.

An Accidental Business

The process began as a personal project. I spent my afternoons learning to manipulate the material, master complex shapes, and stitch seams for multi-piece wraps. As I worked through each piece, I photographed my progress and posted the images on various Subaru forums.

Though I wasn't planning on going into business, I couldn't stop the influx of requests from other forum members wanting similar work for their own vehicles.

Within a short time, I built a small base of like-minded enthusiasts. Since it wasn't a full-time job, I was able to take my time and truly perfect each piece I created. I never advertised or marketed; I only posted images of what I was doing and what I thought looked good. I loved talking with each customer and getting to know them and their car experiences. That philosophy became the foundation of Overland Designs, and it hasn't changed in over 15 years.

The One-Man Shop

To many people's surprise, Overland Designs is still owned and completely operated by me.

The products, website, email, phone calls, packing, shipping, design, and fabrication are all done by me in my small workspace inside my home in North Carolina. My wife and kids are often doing their schoolwork downstairs while I work upstairs. Family has always been number one for me, and being able to run this business from home creates the perfect balance. I get to be present, help raise my two sons, and do a job that supports our whole family.

I don't have any plans to change this. I intentionally keep the business this size so I can give the meticulous attention to detail my customers have come to expect from me and my work.

A Lifelong Passion

When I'm not working, my hobbies still include modifying cars, off-roading, jet skiing, BMX riding, and camping. (Current vehicles include a 2022 BMW X3M Competition and a 2005 Lexus GX470 off-roading monster).

I started modifying cars back in 1996 with my first Honda Civic while still in high school. It's been a passion of mine my entire life. Now in my late 40s, I still have that same itch to customize almost every engine-powered item I own.

I hope to never grow out of the love for my business and the joy that I can bring to my customers.

Sincerely, Jason Esposito
